Meghalaya L.S Polls 2024: 6,106 voters to cast ballots under EC’s ‘home-voting’ initiative

The home-voting procedure which has been going on in the hill state of Meghalaya is expected to complete by April 13.

In a proactive move to ensure a hundred percent voting turnout in the forthcoming Lok sabha elections in the Northeastern hill state of Meghalaya, Election Commission has launched the initiative of ‘home-voting’ where a total of 6,106 voters have been registered across the state, with 3,424such voters registered in 36 assembly segments of Shillong Lok Sabha seat, and 2,682 voters in 14 assembly segments under Tura Lok Sabha constituency.

The home-voting procedure which has been going on in the hill state of Meghalaya is expected to complete by April 13.

Under home-voting the on duty polling officers accompanied by a videographer and security personnel have started visiting the voters’ houses and supervising the postal ballot process.

The Election Commission of India has introduced the “Vote-from-Home” option through postal ballots, specifically targeting two distinct voter groups: individuals aged 85 years and older, and persons with disabilities with a minimum disability rating of 40 percent.

The Election Commission’s initiative underscores its unwavering dedication to inclusivity and accessibility in democratic practices.

Along with this, the Home voting for Absentee voters is also being conducted by the ECI.
Polling for both the Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya will be held in first phase on April 19.
