He further criticised the current MPs of not voicing their opposition when the rights of Christians are being violated, and Christian missionaries are being persecuted.
With just few days left for the Lok Sabha elections in Mizoram, the Congress MP candidate and the current Speaker of Mizoram Legislative Assembly , Lalbiakzama assured that he will restore and strengthen Myanmar border trade through Zokhawthar (Champhai district) as before.
He was speaking at a public rally at Champhai Vengthlang on Tuesday where he addressed the people on restoring the border trade through Zokhawthar (Champhai district).
The Congress MP Candidate stated that the Indo-Myanmar Border Trade is crucial for Mizoram’s economy. “Though it has not functioned properly in recent years, I will make Myanmar border trade through Zokhawthar a smooth process if I am elected MP for the stat of Mizoram,” Lalbiakzama added.
It is worth mentioning that Zokhawthar is a hamlet at Champhai district situated on Mizoram’s border with Myanmar; which has always been buzzing with trade transactions between the two countries.
Lalbiakzama also highlighted how Article 371G of the Indian Constitution protects Mizo customs, and the reason why the people of Mizoram need to use it effectively. He stated that, after passing of the Uniform Civil Code, the protection of Mizoram and its exclusion enshrined under Article 371G of the Indian Constitution must be assured, not verbally but in written record.
He further criticised the current MPs of not voicing their opposition when the rights of Christians are being violated, and Christian missionaries are being persecuted.
Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee President Lalthanzara also addressed the public gathering stating that this year’s election is crucial and that the people of Mizoram areappealed to vote diligently, as he claimed that persecution of Christians in various states of India is increasing with each passing year under the BJP led NDA government.
The MPCC President said that it is better for Mizos to vote for Congress and its INDIA Alliance candidate Lalbiakzama, instead of voting for the ruling ZPM candidate who is unsure of which alliance they would join at the Centre.
