Lok Sabha Polls-Mizoram: Over 8.56 lakh voters to exercise franchise in over 1200 polling stations, informs CEO Madhup Vyas

Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas today shared details about the steps taken and arrangements made to ensure free and fair conduct of elections.
Mizoram is all geared up for elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram. Around 8.56 lakh eligible voters are expected to exercise their franchise and elect their candidate of choice to the Parliament.
The Mizoram Election Commission is all set for the voting day on April 19.
Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas today shared details about the steps taken and arrangements made to ensure free and fair conduct of elections.
The Mizoram CEO said, “We are fully prepared for having the polling. The projected population is 14 lakhs and the number of voters is around 8.56 lakh. We have a favourable gender ratio, the gender ratio in 2024 roll which was published on 6th of February is 1064, so for 1000 male voters we have 1064 female voters.
We have 40 assembly constituencies (ACs) which comprise the single Lok Sabha seat. Aizawl is the biggest district, it has 12 Assembly constituencies. There are 6 districts which have 3 Assembly constituencies each, 2 districts have one each and 1 district that Siaha has 2 ACs. So together we have 40 Assembly constituencies spread in 11 districts.”
Mizoram CEO Madhup Vyas also informed that there are 1276 polling stations and 4 auxiliary polling stations which have been created in Lunglei district. These 1276 plus 4 polling stations are located in 1166 polling locations and the average number of voters per polling station is 671.
“Most of the polling stations are located in rural areas, we have 751 polling stations in rural areas and 525 in urban areas, ” CEO Vyas added.
To ensure that nothing can influence the elections other than the voters’ choice, CEO Madhup Vyas said, “We have District Election Management Plan prepared in all the districts, we have requisitioned required number of vehicles, we have put in place 2 Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams (SST)s in each AC.
In Champhai which is declared to be a sensitive Assembly constituency, there are 3 Flying Squads and 3 SSTs, 2 polling stations have been identified as sensitive as far as inducements are concerned and necessary precautions are being taken.”
