Fmr Sikkim CM and SDF chief Pawan Chamling promises to boost agriculture and rural development in state if elected

Former Chief Minister of Sikkim and the president of Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) Pawan Chamling today promised to boost agriculture and development in the villages of the state if he gets elected in the upcoming assembly elections.
Addressing a public meeting of the party at Rinchenpong assembly constituency, Chamling said that to boost agriculture in the Himalayan State, the party will introduce multiple schemes and like the previous SDF government in Sikkim, it will give farmers free seeds, organic manure, and agriculture inputs, as well as discounted or free cattle seed.
“Our SDF government will pour development in the villages to uplift the rural populace. We will do terracing of all agricultural lands of the villagers and they will get double benefit of contract work and their lands being terraced,” said Chamling.
Pawan Chamling said that the party has multiple projects for rural Sikkim targeted at increasing the income of villagers and farmers.
If SDF voted to power this time, it will give Rs. 60,000 annually to the farmers for agricultural activities, he added.
He also said, “If SDF form the next government in the state, we will spend 70% of the State budget in the villages like before.”
Five-time former Chief Minister and 8-time MLA Pawan Chamling is contesting from Poklok Kamrang and Namcheybung constituency.
He is the sitting MLA of Namchi-Singhithang, his home constituency.
He has won the seat in 1985, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.
In 2009, Chamling had contested from Poklok-Kamrang and Namchi-Singhithang and won both the seats.
In 2014, Chamling contested from Namchi-Singhithang and Rangang-Yangang and won both the seats.
In 2019, Chamling again contested from Namchi-Singhithang and Poklok-Kamrang and won both the seats.
Voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly will be held on April 19 and counting will take place on June 2.
