14 candidates are in the fray from the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim and their nominations have been found valid during scrutiny on Friday.
Citizens Action Party’s candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim and party president Bharat Basnet has sorted out a list of agendas to reach out to the voters and if elected has promised to raise those issues in the Parliament.
Asked as to what is the CAP’s poll plank for the Lok Sabha election, Bharat Basnet in an exclusive conversation with Northeast Live said, “This time our main agendas will be the pending issues like reservation of seats in the Parliament for the Limboo-Tamang communities, despite the Supreme Court giving directions to the Centre and the Sikkim Government to do the needful, but nothing concrete has happened so far, although the present MP from our state Indra Hang Subba is from the Limboo community and the Sikkim CM PS Tamang represents the Tamang community. We have to give justice to both the communities, I will do that.
Secondly, I want to restore the reservation for the Sikkimese people in all the 32 Assembly constituencies in our state. We have lost those seats unconstitutionally.
Thirdly, I want to highlight that there is corruption going on in Sikkim in the name of governance. The corruption has to end and if people support me I want to bring CBI so that those corrupted are booked as per the law.”
Basnet also lashed out at his opponents PD Rai of the SDF and the incumbent Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba of the SKM. According to Basnet, both the opponents are not a challenge for him.
Basnet said, “They are not challenging (factors) for me. Because PD Rai who was 2-time did not do anything and Indra Hang Subba too was sleeping when people took to streets in Sikkim in 2023. People are unhappy with their performances, the voters are well aware of that. Voters from every corner of the state is in contact with me. People themselves are saying that Bharat Basnet should be our MP.”
14 candidates are in the fray from the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim and their nominations have been found valid during scrutiny on Friday.
Among these 14 candidates are incumbent MP Indra Hang Subba of SKM, opposition SDF’s PD Rai, Congress’s Gopal Chettri, CAP’s Bharat Basnett, and DC Nepal of BJP.
