Fmr Sikkim Assembly Speaker KN Rai in ICU with fractured skull

Senior SDF leader and former Assembly Speaker K N Rai is in the ICU with a fractured skull after the assault on him on Friday in Mazigaon, Melli.

On Saturday, Sikkim Police have arrested 6 people in connection with the brutal assault of Rai.
The accused have been identified as Laxman Rai, Awan Tamang, Jiten Rai, David Rai, Saroj Thapa and Karan Tamang.

According to police, three of the accused were arrested from Kubindey Forest, while the fourth was apprehended near Melli Gumpa last night. Two more were arrested later on bringing the total to 6.

The charges against them include Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 324 (causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

Meanwhile one accused involved in the attack is still at large and police are on the lookout.

Earlier yesterday, KN Rai was brutally attacked at Melli in Namchi. Apart from Rai, party spokesperson Shiva Kumar Timshina was also brutally attacked allegedly by ruling SKM supporters.

Rai was referred to a hospital in Siliguri for treatment, where he has been admitted in the ICU. X-ray examination has revealed severe fractures to the skull and facial bones.

Meanwhile SDF Chief Pawan Chamling has once again demanded president’s rule in Sikkim and that the elections be held during the period of President’s Rule.
