Farmers’ mass rally in Agartala, demands fulfilment of promises

Demonstrators marched through the streets, raising slogans denouncing the government's policies and calling for action
The Tripura unit of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) organized a rally in Agartala on Tuesday demanding fulfilment of their demands. The SKM expressed strong discontent and anger towards the Narendra Modi-led central government.
The rally was aimed to spotlight the government’s alleged failure to fulfill the specific promises it made to various sectors, including ensuring appropriate prices for farmers’ produce through MSP, providing financial benefits, employment opportunities, and improved wages for unorganized sector workers.
Demanding the enactment of a law to guarantee a minimum support price (MSP) for crops, pensions for farmers, withdrawal of Operational Performance-linked Salary (OPS) implementation, amendments to labour laws, a minimum wage of Rs 26,000 per month, repeal of four labour codes, guaranteed employment as a fundamental right, opposition to privatization of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and abolition of fixed-term employment, among other issues, the protesters voiced their grievances against the government’s shortcomings.
Starting from the Paradise Chowmhuni area, demonstrators marched through the streets, raising slogans denouncing the government’s policies and calling for action.
Additionally, the rally served as a prelude to the upcoming nationwide strike, with the Gramin Bharat bandh scheduled to be observed from 6 am to 4 pm, accompanied by farmers participating in chakka jam on major roads across India on February 16.
This collective action underscores the growing discontent among various segments of society regarding the government’s performance on critical issues.
As voices of dissent amplify, the Modi government faces mounting pressure to address the concerns raised by these protests and effectively fulfill its electoral promises.
