Manipur CM N Biren Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah

Amid the concentrated efforts to bring permanent peace in Manipur, the Centre is all set to take a host of other key decisions soon. This has been informed by none other than Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi today.

Soon after meeting Shah, the Manipur Chief Minister in a post on social media said, “Today, I had the esteemed privilege of meeting with the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah Ji in New Delhi. Engaging in a profound exchange, we discussed matters of paramount importance concerning our state.
Rest assured, the Government of India is set to take some important decisions in the interests of the people of Manipur.”

If one looks at the recent developments, the Manipur Government had urged the Centre for deployment of a ‘neutral force’ in the state for maintenance of law and order.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh had informed about the government’s decision after the killing of 4 civilians at Ningthoiukhong in Bishnupur district on January 18.

On January 20, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had informed about the Centre’s decision to seal the porous India-Myanmar border soon. Not only this, the Union Home Minister also informed about the Centre’s decision to do away with the Free Movement Regime (FMR).

This decision of the Centre is likely to have far implications in terms of Manipur since it shares its borders with Myanmar. Worth mentioning, Manipur CM had in the recent past raised serious concerns about a transnational plot trying to destabilize Manipur as well as illegal influx especially from Myanmar.

It is likely that all these issues might have been discussed at length during the meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur CM N Biren Singh.

Manipur CM N Biren Singh also met top officials of the Home Ministry immediately after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In a tweet, the Manipur CM informed, “Post-meeting with Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji, I convened with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the North Block, New Delhi. Held a productive discussion on the strategic measures undertaken for fostering peace in Manipur.”
