A’chal Child Rights Commission: Sack IRBN personnel accused of sexually assaulting 2 minors

4 accused including an IRBN personnel have been arrested in connection with the case of repeated sexual assault of 2 minor girls

The Arunachal Pradesh Commission for Child Rights has demanded termination of services of an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBN) personnel allegedly involved in sexually assaulting 2 minor girls of the state and a chargesheet against the IRBN personnel and the other three accused for their alleged involvement in the crime.

“In the case relating to the recent assault on two minor girls, we have immediately jumped into action. We have taken Suo Moto cognizance of the matter and have asked the police to provide an update. An IRBN official is the main accused in this case along with three others. We are studying ways to avoid such incidents in the future,” Ratan Anya, Chairperson of the Commission said.

Anya said that the decisions were taken after a meeting of the Commission that was held after a thorough inspection of the case.

The meeting focused on discussing the revised Standard Operating Procedures of the Railway Protection Force or RPF for the year 2021. Additionally, the Commission discussed the establishment of a Child Help Desk at railway stations.

Anya also alleged inadequate security arrangements at the Naharlagun Railway Station, alleging zero CCTV installations within the premises and no deployment of Government Railway Police. Anya further informed that the Commission is writing a letter to the Railway Authority to address these concerns.

It may be mentioned here that 4 accused including the IRBN personnel have been arrested in connection with the case of repeated sexual assault of 2 minor girls. The disappearance of two minor girls, one aged 14 years and another 12 years, from their residence at Chandannagar was reported on January 20.

As the investigation unfolded, crucial information surfaced indicating that the missing girls were in Guwahati. Collaborating with Assam Police the girls were rescued on January 21 and transported back to Itanagar on January 22.
