Assam man accused of twin murder, rape and jail break arrested after an 11-year manhunt in Arunachal

In a major breakthrough, Arunachal Pradesh Police have successfully arrested a man accused of twin murder, rape and jail break after an 11-year manhunt.
The arrested accused has been identified as Majibur Rahman, a resident of Gohaidholoni village in Sunapur Circle under Bihpuria Police Station of North Lakhimpur district, Assam.
As per inputs, Majibur Rahman fled from judicial custody over 10 years ago and was evading police for almost 11 years.
Rahman along with two other undertrial prisoners–Buddhram Nayak and Farooq Islam had fleed from jail on the intervening night of August 23–24, 2012.
After that, he proceeded to Nagaon with the other two escapees, left them there, and went to Kerala alone. After a few years in Kerala, he moved to Bengaluru, Karnataka, where he used some old documents to change his name from Majibur Rahman to Atabur Rahman, the name of his younger brother. He has been living as Atabur Rahman ever since.
Once he was sure that he had all the documents necessary to prove his identity as Atabur, he returned to Assam.
After spending a few years in Majuli, he has been bouncing around jobs as Atabur between Narayanpur, Lakhimpur, and other places for the last two years.
Acting on tip-off, Itanagar Police under the leadership of SP Itanagar Rohit Rajbir Singh from arrested Rahman from Jollang, Itanagar in the wee hours of Saturday bringing an end to his escape.
SP Rohit Rajbir Singh while lauding the persistent and brilliant efforts of the team for ensuring the arrest of such a dreaded criminal appealed to the general public to ensure servant verification with police before hiring anyone for a job at their homes to ensure personal safety and wellbeing.

In November 6, 2008, Majibur Rahman along with two others had allegedly raped and killed two sisters who used to operated a beauty parlor at Ganga Market, Itanagar.
The gruesome rape and murder had shaken the conscience of the entire state.
Next day, police arrested the trio in the relevant secations of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the crime they had committed.
Following a trial, Majibur Rahman was declared a proclaimed criminal for escaping arrest and avoiding trial, while one of the accused, Md. Najirul Islam, is currently serving a life term at Jully Jail, Itanagar, following the filing of charges.
On August 2012, Rahman along with Buddhram Nayak and Farooq Islam escaped from Jully jail.
Police manged to arrest Buddharam Nayak and Farooq Islam from various places of Assam but Majibur Rahman was absconding since then.
Majibur Rahman before committing the gruesome act of murder and rape in the year 2008 was a habitual thief and a part of the gang wanted across Assam and Arunachal for having committed dozens of thieveries.
As many as 7 cases are registered against Majibur Rahman for his involvement in various criminal activities.
