The bridge was built as a response to the devastating flash floods in the state on October 4 last year
The Border Roads Organization (BRO) completed the construction of a 400-feet Bailey Suspension Bridge in less than three months , a record-setting timeframe in the entire country, in Sanklang, North Sikkim.
The bridge was inaugurated today morning in a programme which was attended by many civil and state dignitaries including, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, MLA Dzongu, Panchayat members of Dzongu and others.

The bridge was built as a response to the devastating flash floods in the state on October 4 last year which damaged vital infrastructure in North Sikkim including washing away of thirteen bridges and approximately 20-25 kilometres of road network.

The washing away of such vital infrastructure severed the connectivity and supply chain of armed forces deployed in North Sikkim which put the security of the nation at risk. Sensing the gravity of the situation BRO mobilized its heavy machinery, reserve bridging resources and manpower to establish a suspension bridge at Sanklang to provide round the year connectivity to North Sikkim and Dzongu region.

The suspension bridge was dedicated to the state by Public Works Department Minster of Sikkim Samdup Lepcha.
