Mizoram: Cops allegedly involved in extortion suspended

Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga shared the information in a post on X today.

Turning its words into action, the Mizoram Government has suspended 2 police officials for their alleged involvement in illegal collection of money at variour police checkgates.

This comes after the Mizoram Government issued a circular asking police officials to stay away from such corrupt practices.

In his post on X, the Mizoram Home Minister reiterated about the government’s zero tolerance to corruption and ensured the emergence of ‘Kalphung thar’, a new system in government.

The post read, “Two police officers have been suspended as part of a disciplinary proceeding for violating a Home Department circular aimed at halting the illegal collection of money at various police check gates.
I have said that the Home Department will spearhead a transformation in government administration, ensuring the public witnesses the emergence of ‘Kalphung thar’, a new system in government.
We place significant emphasis on the proper enforcement of the rule of law, and we underscore the need for a robust Reward and Punishment Mechanism. As articulated by the Chief Minister, while the government does not seek to investigate and penalize past transgressions in politics or administration, it is imperative to halt such practices moving forward.”

On January 4, the Mizoram Home Department had issued a circular directing the police officials not to be involved in extortion at the police checkgates failing which the government warned of stern action.
